Would a 2014 800XC throttle body fit a 2012ABS?
« on: September 25, 2021, 08:42:23 PM »
I've had it with my 2012 cutting out whenever I come to a stop so I'm going to replace the stepper.
Looking on eBay there are a few throttle bodies with stepper for the 2014 XC model.
I'll probably be taking the stepper off so I don't have to balance the linkages.

Would it be a drop in replacement? I cleaned the linkages last year to no effect.

Thanks!

Using parts lists to compare part numbers is always a pretty good start point.

Here is the stepper motor, item 5, for a 'Gen 1' Tiger.
https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/8598/tiger-800-to-vin-674841/throttles-injectors-and-fuel-rail

If you click on the words. 'idle speed control assy' it will take you to a list of other bikes the component fits ...
https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/T1242812

... which appears to be the same for the 'Gen 1' roadie and XC.

Alternatively you could also look at the 'Gen 1' Tiger XC parts list and match the above part number with the above 1st list (which do match).

Looks to me like all the 'Gen 1' bikes had the same stepper motor .... but don't just take my reply (I have a 'Gen 2' without this setup and issue).
Also owned my 1979 Bonnie T140E from new!

Not understanding your question--- do you want to swap out entire throttle body including replacement stepper?
But you say you are going to take the stepper off??? Isn't that the part you want to replace because you think it is faulty?
If you are stalling at stops because the idle drops, are you sure it is the stepper? Have you been able to test by holding the revs on with the throttle grip?

Appreciate the replies, thank you.

I found a complete TB/stepper/linkage from a bike which has done less than 1000miles for half the price of a new stepper, it's an XC and looks the same as mine.
I figured I can always use the other parts as and when needed.

I can keep it from stalling with the throttle but it's getting old.

ok, why not keep it together and swap out the entire assembly?
If not, at least use the newer stepper motor to correct your idling problem if you think that is the cause.
One other thing, re-balance the throttle bodies regardless of which ones you use. That affects idle.
You can do that with TuneECU and a PC or android device.
