few mates of mine also run the STRs and rate them high for typical dirt road riding - better than the AX41 on wet tarmac IMO (but that was to be expected)

I'm really impressed with the str's I had them on my V-strom and was forever dragging the centre stand on corners. The tarmac grip is plentiful, but they do tend to buzz a bit though the bars.

So, took my 15 plate xcx on some Devon TET last November...changed nothing except tyres. So the xcx has WP suspension, which is nice, but the absolute biggest thing you need to do is engage off road mode! I guess the xc has it? I'll be honest, once tyres changed and off road mode, it was a joy off road...deep, paddling rutted tracks, clay , leafy lanes, stony climbs, it coped very well. Didn't even let the tyres down much. My mate on his SWM 650 couldn't shake me on slippery muddy tracks.
