Great summary Uli, of brilliant couple of days' riding - thanks for putting the routes together. Can confirm that we had a blast riding through the Taunus hills, with Uli picking out plenty of strings of juicy hairpins. He even managed to find us a nice mossy cobbled 40 degree incline on the way out to them on the Sunday - which was a very courteous way to wake up those of us who were napping after a heavy lunch stop.  :008:

I'm back in the UK now after another couple of weeks around south Germany and Lake Konstanz, but I think the Taunus hills were definitely the best riding of the jaunt. (And Steve, you'll be pleased to know I polished off a few currywurst on your behalf)

Looking forward to the next one out West! :031:

    Sunday Tour:

We started at 10 am went through the Taunus Hills again, this time Arno on his huge Harley Tractor had to be the sweeper, Coffeebreak in Braunfels, nice ups and downs to Limburg, where all the shops were open on a Sunday (they are usually closed by law on a Sunday, but the town council may allow four "shopping sundays" per year) so the town was pretty packed. Lucky as we are we found a good spot to park the bikes short walk into the medieval town center and lucky we again found enough space in a small restaurant for the lunch break.

After lunch break we went west to get into Gelbach Valley and although the forecast was dry and sunny had a rain shower for about 20 mins. Not too bad and once we were down to Bad Ems for the final coffee break we were all dry again. After coffee break we went up Lahn Valley, crossed the river in Oberhof and went up hill from there. I guess that was the bit Dan ist talking about regarding juicy hairpins. Don't know exactly where the "mossy cobbled 40 degree incline" bit was.

Anyway, we ended up at my place again, had a beer, talked some nonsense and then everyone was own his way: the Brits back to the Hotel, the Germans back home.

I have recorded tracks ready but they are too big for an attachement here. Don't know how to get those tracks to members who are interested

    Hello All

I am now home from the Megameet (oh, and Norway) and can only agree with the rest of the crew who were lucky enough to make it to Germany.  Uli played a blinder (as expected) and we all had a great time.  The others have described the well chosen routes, the superb road surfaces and tasty food/drink so I won't bore you with my thoughts, just a few photos instead:

Jimmy is traditionally a shoo-in for the long distance prize at the MM but as most of those miles are by Boeing rather than Triumph I reckon my 5553 miles from door to door might qualify for an honourable mention.

I will put up a few pics of my Norway adventures too on a separate thread for those interested.  It really is an amazingly beautiful place.

See you all in the South-West next time!

Hi Alex, glad to see you got home in one piece…!
I think you may need to consider getting a trailer if you’re going to do another “extended” MegaMeet. It sounds like you all had a good trip, sorry I missed it.
I hadn’t realised that Zaphod was auditioning to be the next 007; that is one seriously mean and moody look; or it may just have been the fact that his glass was empty.
At first glance I thought Stevie.P had his wallet out, to buy some drinks, but then realised it must have been a trick of the light as it’s his phone….., maybe next year he’ll get a round in!
Glad to see that Uli pulled off an awesome weekend; looking forward (maybe) to the “SW Trip” next year.
Hope to catch up at some point.
    Cheers
    Geoff

    Well thanks for the praise...

I guess the point of a Megameet is locals planning the routes and lead them. As I said in another post every Megameet I was allowed to take in part in the UK was just phenomenal seeing bits of your beautiful country I would never see as a mere tourist.

Looks like I was able to pay  back something in one way or the other, glad the "happy few" seem to have enjoyed it generally.

See you in the South West next year and hopefully I can use some of the routes I already planned for 2020 to get there including the landing beaches in Normandy to get there

Dunno about 007, probably more Johnny English.... And I'll have been hungry....
