On Page 13 of the Sunday Times was an article on a motorcyclist insured through Bikesure whose bike was damaged by a car whose driver admitted to being at fault. The claim took 8 months to finally resolve and involved the rider contacting Bikesure (as broker), his insurance company Markerstudy and their underwriters 4th Dimension and possibly also Aviva all to try to chase up the claim and find out what was happening with it. At face value, this was a straightforward claim involving only superficial damage to the bike. Unfortunately, both Markerstudy and 4th Dimensions have terrible reviews (89% 1 star and 64% 1 star, respectively) and are probably companies best avoided.
It's possible, the rider went about this in completely the wrong way - normally, you would hope the broker would do all the chasing for you and I would definitely not be looking to contact any underwriters. However, the rider needed the claim to be settled quickly and so it is understandable that he wanted to make every effort to find out what was holding it up. Unfortunately, the final outcome to this tale was that, after repairing the damage to the bike, the garage involved couldn't get it started again (undisclosed engine issue?) and so it was written off!
I am hoping never to have to make a motorcycle insurance claim especially now that I've found that I am insured with Markerstudy via Devitt
