Unfortunately all insurance companies operate the same definitions so other than vote for a political party which campaigns on introducing a change to this situation, there’s not much we can do.

Changing the tube status is not a “material fact” when you get T boned by a distracted driver. It’s only a material fact if you have a crash that directly relates to the modification. I’ll go back to my previous question. When was the last time anybody in the UK knows about an insurance company removing the tyres from a wrecked bike to check the tube status?

You misunderstand the meaning of ‘material fact’’. You’re correct that it would not be a relevant issue in the collision you describe. However, it is a ‘material fact’ necessary for the underwriters to assess their risk in insuring you so that they can calculate the premium. If you haven’t declared a ‘material fact’ then they may not have levied the correct premium. In such circumstances the insurers are entitled to say that your policy is void because you haven’t paid the correct premium for the risk you impose on them.

Hi all

I have had this done front and back by CW components. Front is expensive as you need a new rim, I also at the time went stainless spokes on the front. Rear much less as the rim is OK and my spokes were not too bad so left as was.   No haven't told the insurance company like I have not told them I have changed the brake and clutch levers,  the windshield and tyres. All material elements.  I agree it is safer to go tubeless and CWC are excellent.  I had a small leak after 24 months and they have replaced it all and warranted another 24 months.   They are still refining the technique but I wouldn't hesitate in doing it again on any tubed wheel.

What did you pay for the front wheel work?, and how long ago?

Hi from memory the front with new spokes and rim was about £400, rear about £190 inc courier and taking off tyre, refit and balance.  Had the front done 24 months and read about 2 months.  All good.

Update
Spoke to Bennetts as my renewal came through.
No change to price, but they were happy it was declared, and I think it will be noted on the policy.
I'm quite happy, as I already sold my spoked wheel to another Forum member who had a corroded one, so a win win.

21 front and 17 rear. Rear is same size for both.
Swapped my as new tyre , disc and checked bearings, and it all slotted straight in.
It's quite a subtle change, unless you know what to look at.
