Handlebar Dia?
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:49:22 AM »
:148: I need to know the exact size (dia) of the handle bar on the Tiger so that I can get a thumb brake fitted before I can ride it from the dealers. Can anyone give me the correct size not an estimate like the joker on other forum! If he had lost his leg he wouldn't  find it funny. Thanks.

Is it the internal diameter that you need?

It's a tapered handlebar. I expect the OD at the ends is the standard 7/8" -- looks like Triumph is using their standard 7/8" switchgear. The only bikes that use 1" handlebars and corresponding switchgear are some of the Modern Classics and cruisers.

Like I mentioned earlier it is very likely the bar goes from 28 to 22 mm. (it does with the bar on the Street Triple R and Speed but also on KTM's SM/Adv)

Which makes 22mm at the switchgear

But as the bike is not in the shops yet, it is all guesswork

Thinking the ext diameter will be std size as above..

They do tapered bars for the XC as an option, but the grip parts will be the same.

Pretty good guess, but you will need to know for sure.

Sorry about that burgerking.
Thought you was taking the mickey. I understand what you mean now, but I need to know the exact dia so that I can order a thumb brake off Engineer who made one for my Honda CBF 500 which works a treat. That was a 7/8" bar so hopefully Tiger will be the same. One on my Sprint is completely different so cannot be changed over.
I am unable to get out and about at mo, so appreciate if and when someone can measure it and let me know for sure. Thanks everyone for help in this matter.

as its a critical requirement for you, and its soemthing thats fairly sepcific I'd either wait till the bike reaches the (UK) dealer (supposed to be this weekend) I'd wait till it gets there and do the check yourself, or get the dealer to do the check for yourself, heck the bikje may already be sitting on the shop floor away from prying eyes as we speak.

OR

contact Triumph directly telling 'em why it is you need special information

in any event I doubt the first cusotmer bikes will be ready till a while after the official launch.

That's a good idea, have asked dealer to let me know,am awaiting his reply. Will try and get in touch with Triumph Factory maybe they will be more obliging. I need to give Engineer at least a month's notice to make it up for me, it does not come cheap hence the correct size is important!
