Here are a couple of hotels, a pub and and a guest house I know of (and can recommend) that are close to Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Great Landgale. If camping at the Great Landgale site isn't for you , and you fancy a bit of a treat, you could do a lot worse than one of these.

The closest (and best ) is the Langdale Hotel & Country club. We've stayed here a few times as a treat. Its in a beautiful wooded setting.
Check out the website. You can often get some form of discount (which is necessary,  otherwise its a second mortgage job).

Then there's the Britannia pub in the village of Elterwater. This is a famous Lakes pub and popular with walkers. It does decent food and has a great village pub atmosphere.

Then there's the Eltermere hotel , just a few hundred yards outside the village, This is another expensive upmarket hotel overlooking Elterwater valley. Superb contemporary rooms and walking distance from the Britannia pub.

All 3 are in a convenient location  for reaching Dungeon Ghyll,.... and yes there are taxis.

A couple of  miles from here is a lovely B & B I can recommend. Its Elterwater Park  (on the A493 from Skelwith Bridge).

Cornellia , the lady who runs it,  is the most adorable host. She makes a real fuss of you to ensure you are OK. Its not bad at 40 PPPN including a lovely cooked breakfast. The location is hard to beat, and a great chioce, so long as you don't mind the firm mattresses!  (If you get time, you also get free use of the Langdale hotel facilities)

sounds like a good backup too just in case the weather is so bad that campers stay in harmony (no divorces)  :156:
