I would not change the oil until after I had talked to Westway. Their phone number is on their web site. I actually doubt that there is anything wrong with the oil that is in the bike at moment. All oil goes black in a motorcycle engine soon after it’s been run and the foaming may well be a trait of the oil that Westway can explain.
Really I think you have added 2+2 and ended up with 75 based on what you have posted so far.

Oil gets delivered on Wednesday hopefully. So not changed it yet.

Lovely gold colour when new, jet black few days later. Not just black, but dirty looking black if that make sense.

You never mentioned that the oil went black in your first post. Is that why your mechanic friend said change the oil or was it due to the bubbles ?? Not really clear...  :038:

So am I correct in thinking you've changed the oil now ??

You never mentioned most of that in your first post but other than the oil foaming and maybe the gear positioning indicator none of the other issues are likely to be oil related.

Out of interest, why do you have to disconnect the battery when you go away? If it's to stop it discharging, can't you connect it up to an intelligent charger or is this impractical?

Thanks for the link.
It seems its a confused issue as some have managed to clear it via various means while others say the rear shock unit has had to be replaced.
From my view point if this is due to just disconnecting the battery and being random on some bikes it must be a fault and as I go away every year for a few weeks I shall be disconnecting the battery again.
I am still waiting to hear from Triumph via the dealer and will report back on the outcome.

Ok now this is weird

Original issues were wouldn't idle properly, drinking fuel, gear light showing whatever it felt like and oil foaming at the mouth.

Just rode to work, super smooth and gear light showing correct and now, putting the bike on centre stand and the oil drained down as it should have done before with zero bubbles.

Could  the stepper motor cause all these issues??

The RE owners group couldn't praise it highly enough. So possibly a bad batch.

It meets the specs so why not contact the manufacturer or distributors help line and see what they say. You are likely to get a much better answer from them than the often contradictory peoples personal theories you will get here.
