Title: Clutch replacement suggestions
Post by: TheMaddSquirrel on May 04, 2021, 02:04:06 AM
I've got 10k miles, I'm not sure how long this clutch has left, as I just bought used. Looking for replacement suggestions and part numbers so I can not waste time returning the wrong parts. (I defer to your mastery)
 Thanks in advance

That sounds like an awfully low mileage to be thinking of replacing the clutch - unless it is displaying an obvious problem, I would not worry about it?

I agree, though I still would like the proper part numbers if you know of a thread I can check?

I assume you are thinking in terms of just replacing the friction plates rather than anything more fundamental? Here in the UK, it would just be a case of looking up the parts diagram and list from someone like Fowlers and then ordering what you need:

Excellent, thank you.
Looking at, specifically gasket for outer case, and going most likely with Barnett clutch 303-75-0675, gasket I'm coming up with  T1260141, for the 2013 Tiger 800 xc

That looks to be the right number but, surprisingly, Fowlers shows it not to be in stock??

Thank you. Same issues here in US, most on backorder

Hey Squirrel, I've had a bad outcome with Barnett clutch components on one of my Hondas. Why not get the OEM parts? They work well. If you do decide to replace the clutch plates you might consider getting new springs as well. They're cheap and since you're there already you might as well.

I've inspected my clutch at 32k and all was as new/nominal. Put it back together and expecting another 30k to munch.

While you'll be working in this area I would suggest to check your return spring and consider preventative maintance/mod of the gear selector pin. This was actually main reason I went there. Your 2012 bike is a high risk - multiple reports of the failure.

85,000 kms on my Tiger clutch still fine, so why worry with only 10,000 miles?

Not so much worried,  I've never ridden one so I'm not sure how spongy it should be, seemed like it bit ok, overall it's in garage kept shape, I just was gonna knock it out anyways, and a begin learning to maintain it.
