Electrical, Lighting, and Wiring / Re: TPS on CAN Bus polling slowly

"Not sure why one sensor is half the voltage of the other. Could that half voltage sensor #2  be the source of throttle signal for the 'limp home' failure mode?"
I don't believe so, I suspect the half voltage allows checking for a short between the 2 sensor wires, and the limp function would use the signal it saw as plausible albeit limiting performance and revs.

There's a bit more to this than it may first appear.

Yes there are often 2 sensor readings and Triumph have some DTCs to cover certain sensor correlation errors, but on the 900 (at least from my current testing) the Twistgrip #1 sensor reads 1.00V to 4.49V, TPS #1 sensor reads 0.62V to 3.89V, and Twistgrip #2 & TPS#2 sensors both report the same value range of 1.49 to 4.12V. To add to this mix, not all of these are linear.

Thanks HMC, that's interesting.
I thought it could have been some kind of redundancy because of the critical importance of the throttle. Not sure why one sensor is half the voltage of the other. Could that half voltage sensor #2  be the source of throttle signal for the 'limp home' failure mode?

Hi chuckxc,
That is found in all engine management systems as a safety feature, mostly the 2 sensors correlate one voltage with half voltage on the second sensor, sometimes they work in reverese i.e. sensor 1 goes from 0 to 5 volts and sensor 2 goes from 5 to 0 volts. Thus an incorrect cross check logs a DTC and almost certainly puts the system into limp.

ECU Re-Mapping and Tuning / Re: Ecu error after handshake

There are lots that will work and lots of dodgy ones that won't. See this link for leads that are known to work 100% and are recommended by me...

Being in Australia you might find AliExpress the quickest / easiest option as there don't appear to be any of the BBFLY leads on your Amazon or eBay sites. Also, BMDiag do ship their leads internationally and I've found their service to be excellent.

I found it curious that the twistgrip sensor has two linear voltage outputs.
Sensor #1 (ECU pin 21) is the one we have been discussing, ranging from 1.0 to 4.5 VDC for closed to full throttle.
Sensor #2 (ECU pin 28) (both white wires btw) ranges from 0.6 to 2.3VDC for closed to full throttle.

What is the function of the second sensor? :084:

Just a heads up, my 2017 tiger 800 XRT is being traded in on the 18th so I'll have some quality bits for sale. Not removed off the bike yet, I'll be doing that this coming week.

Arrow end can

Barkbusters storm handguards

Nitron fully adjustable rear shock (only 1k miles on this)

Oxford QR tank ring adapter

Full Madstad MRA screen setup including winglets

All in great condition, pics and prices coming soon. Message me if you're interested.

Collection is ideal but will post if need be

And I had one other less inspired guess for the 84.4%...
The tach max reading is 12k rpm but the redline on the dial is approx 85% of 12k. Could it be Triumphs way of creating a rev limiter?
Probably not. :187:

ECU Re-Mapping and Tuning / Re: Ecu error after handshake

Hey thanks for the response.  I've given up on getting a BlueTooth interface to work so I am looking for a USB interface.  Is there one which you could recommend?

Unfortunately it looks like that interface isn't reading the ECU data correctly, or isn't sending out the correct request and therefore isn't getting a valid reply.

From my experience very similar looking cheap Bluetooth ELM327 interfaces are flaky at the best of times.

Any reason why you want or need to use a Bluetooth interface? I use various USB interfaces 99.9% of the time and never have an issue using any of them with TigerTool or Dealertool.
