Title: Hello from NI
Post by: Phil_from_Derry on February 08, 2021, 07:58:04 PM
Hello.  Currently on the lookout for a Tiger800.  My first 'big' bike was a Triumph Tiger but that was nearly 40 years ago and it was a wee T100, an ex Irish Garda bike.  Many moons and bikes later and i'm drawn to the newish 800 after looking at a few other options.  The size and engine seem perfect for a bike that i can use easily day to day as well as a long run away.  Currently on a M900 Monster and a Yamaha MT-03 660.  The Yam is a good run around but a bit revvy and single cylinder so not so good on a longer run, esp 2 up.
Any tips/recommendations welcomed.  Thanks in advance
Phil

Thanks for the kind welcomes all.
Start of enquiries to dealers in GB are good fun.  So far, of the few i contacted, none willing to sell to NI with Brexit.  They say they're not prepared to do the V5 change to an NI address as they're not sure how it might pan out with VAT etc down the line.  I thought a private sale would be ok and that the doubt previously was to do with dealers in NI.  I even thought they came to an agreement around that, introducing a marginal scheme or something like that where they restricted VAT to the profit that the NI dealer made on the import??

Anyway, i'll get there at some stage.  I can maybe get a friend in England to buy and i'll change it over from them and ride home ... or something. :084:

Has it got to be a dealer sale? There's generally Tiger 800s to be found in NI on Gumtree and Ebay.

I bought a nice 2017 XRx today, won't be delivered from England till a few weeks time, but that suits fine.
Very low mileage, silver, full set of aluminium trekker boxes, engine bars and sump plate fitted.
Canny wait now!!
Also need to decide whether to sell the monster or the MT03 to make some room..... was thinking i might extend the garage.

Will post some pics when she's on this side.

Just in from a day out on my new bike.  It arrived this morning just in time for a St Patrick's day spin.
First impressions, very nice to ride. It has a madstad screen and rox risers and is set up just perfect for me. Nice power deliveryup the revs a bit.  I've been riding a v-twin and a single cylinder for a few years so very different.  And with the setup, screen and hand guards, feels like you could put some long miles on this easily.  Has full triumph expedition luggage too, plenty of room for stuff  :001:
