Title: Anyone ridden the B500 in Black forest?

Hi - enquiring if anyone on the forum has ridden the B500 in Germany down in Black forest?

I had planned a trip last year with a friend, staying at the well known Pension Williams but Covid screwed that up.

Thinking of doing it later this year, but have been on youTube looking at videos and to be honest, it looks a bit boring - nice roads yes but looks lined with trees a lot so not much in the way of views - is that true, or are the vids a bit misleading?

Stunning road to ride, flowing and undulating ribbon of tarmac.

It’s in a forest so yes, lots of trees but also view points. It’s a road to ride spirited.

If you want a tootle there are maybe better but I’ve not spoken to anyone that has not loved it.

Build it into a trip around the other great roads in Europe.

Ridden it many times, most people just ride from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt & back. It's a bit broken up after that but you can follow it ok down to Waldshut pick up the road to Koblenz. I use it to go down thro' Switzerland & on to Italy. As said above best ridden quite fast, it would be boring at 50 or 60 & you'd get in the way. Beautiful road with big sweepers, loads of caff's & plenty of corner visibility, no hidden scary stuff. There's a camp site at Buhl approx 10 miles from Baden-Baden.

Awesome road. Some really good foodstops on it.

Here's the campsite at Buhl, there's a bar & restaurant on site. There are loads of hotels in Baden-Baden if you're not into camping.

Rode it a few years ago brilliant, we got to a layby everybody parked up for a chat and some went back and rode it again, a guy on an Aprilia got back and his tyres were molten!!!!

Yes, don’t!

Lake Constance is a traffic nightmare, north side especially. Great roads round about the area as also in the Hartz Mountains.

No idea about Pension Williams. Generally in Germany it’s hard to go wrong from my experience.

My favourite spot on Lake Bodensee (Constance as some call it) is Meersburg, beautiful small town with good bars & restaurants. Plenty of hotels if that's your choice. Nearest camp is Hagnau about 40min walk.

I have heard that B500 is best avoided on weekends.
Not been on there myself but on the list to do.

Good point about not riding it at weekends on these popular roads - bound to be less traffic midweek
