Title: 2018 xrx centre stand
Post by: JJM on February 10, 2019, 07:56:48 PM
Hi all, just purchased a 2018 xrx. Can anyone confirm if this model comes with a centre stand as standard. Mine doesn't have one. My previous 2015 xrx did, is this a weight/cost saving measure
Thanks in advance

No centre stand - https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/adventure/tiger-800/tiger-800-xrt/features (https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/adventure/tiger-800/tiger-800-xrt/features).

Depending on how you look at it Triumph are either cost saving by removing it to keep the list price of the bike down or ripping people off because they know most owners will buy a stand as an accessory.

To be fair Triumph can't be ripping people off unless they advertise that model as including a centre stand but then selling one without it.

My model comes with one but I only use it when lubricating the chain.

Your right, made cleaning and oiling the chain so much easier
Plus I would always use centre stand rather than the stand if there was any doubt with bike rolling forward due to camber or forward slope on the road. Bet their not cheap

The profit margin in one sold as an accessory will be far higher than the profit on the stand if its fitted at the factory. Remove the stand from the standard fitment list and reduce costs, do not reduce the cost of the bike then sell the stand at a higher margin as an accessory. That is what I meant by rip off.

A centrestand is pretty much essential if you need to remove either wheel.

A bike is more stable on a side stand than a centre stand.
Leave it in first gear, push forward to take up the slack in the transmission then lean it on the side stand.  If the stand is on the same level as the wheels, it will be as stable as it can be.

The old Brit bikes had centre stands, some had front & rear stands. A side stand was an extra. Nowadays accountants overrule the Engineers. All my bikes have centre stands, except the traillie, I have a bike lift for that.

:110: Sorry, a vote for no center stand - here. A bike's for riding (not working-on....) -- why carry that, often difficult to deploy, heavy chunk of metal clanking away down there? When, you really don't need it for riding.
When I service my bike in the garage, I have a stand for that.

I seem to scrape the pegs before I scrape the centre stand on my XRX.

I suppose its all about money-  and what extras are easiest to charge for , I took an XRT demo out - list price over 12k and that was without luggage or Sat Nav  !! So I bought a used bike with extras   ( inc stand), just over 6500 . You can't blame Triumph --- BMW have been doing it for years

Have the centerstand on my 2018 XRT. It is poorly designed though ... a well designed centerstand should require little effort.
If you ever put a BMW 1200RT or a Versys 1000 on the centerstand, then you know how little effort should be required, even on heavy bikes. Putting my relatively light-weight tiger on the centerstand is very difficult for me: bacause of back issues, i really need to avoid lifting weight. I am actually considering removing it, and just fitting an automatic chain oiler.

They could list the pillion seat & pegs as an extra, keep the price & weight specs down.

The positioning of the T8 c'stand takes the whole weight of the bike. The much heavier Tiger sports pops up onto c'stand much easier, rear biased.
