Title: Cheap Bluetooth headset help
Post by: PapaTom on June 16, 2019, 07:02:33 PM
Hi guys, and gals.
On the odd occasion I like to listen to music while riding.
Because of the infrequency, and the fact of being a Yorkshireman, I don't want to pay silly money.

So my request is, do any of you recommended a non main-brand system. I've room in my helmet for slimmish speakers, and although I ride with a tomtom I only need it to connect to my phone.

Cheers.

Tom

Now then,

If it is only for your music, then just buy a set of hard wired helmet speakers, no need for bluetooth, plenty on fleabay.

I used a set for a while, they cost less than £15.00, but ended up with a Sena (the cheapest one without intercom facility but pars to phone and sat nav).

Being half Yorkshire and half Ayrshire, I couldn't bring myself to spend any more.....

Chinese generic headset that gets sold under many brand names works reasonably well

Cheers for all responses.

Elmer-the headsets you refer to don't seem to be loud enough from reading reviews,

Chuck-although reasonably priced, would like actual recommendation from someone who owns one. Is that you.

Phil-tried that already. Very quiet and uncomfortable under my helmet.

Rtwo-similar suggestion to chuck.

As mentioned. Thanks to all.
A year or so back someone recommended just such an item but can I hell as find it.

Keep em coming   :028:

I used to use the cheapy in-helmet speakers. Sound quality was not too bad for the cheap price (I always have ear plugs in which actually makes the sound better) but you had to pretty much treat them as being semi-disposable as the wires inevitably broke after a while. There also wasn't any way to control your music through them.

I contemplated buying the cheaper bluetooth types suggested above, the ratings for which seem to vary wildly between 1 and 5 stars. In the end I bit the bullet and went for a pair of Scala Rider Q1s, partly as I wanted to take my son away on the bike. Very happy with them. Can control the music. Volume increases automatically as your speed increases (well, as the wind noise increases) but they were a lot more expensive.

I appreciate its a bit pricier than the ones linked to above but this seems like not a bad price for a single Scala headset - https://www.spesa.co.uk/products/scala-btsrqz . It's the same place I bought mine. I'd never heard of them before but they seem to have some quite good deals from time to time.
