Title: Time and trip milage reset

Hi everyone.
I'm need of help.

I had the issue with the idling where it would stop idling randomly.
I've removed the tank, the battery etc, cleaned the stepper motor, assembled everything back and that issue is gone.

The issue I have now is everytime I turn the bike off and on the time and trip milage resets.

The petrol remains normal.

What could cause this?

The dash  standby circuitry  needs to be connected to 12V even when the bike is switch off. Otherwise, you will have what you are experiencing. Similar to what happens when the battery is disconnected. Check the wiring to the dash. Make sure your battery maintains a full charge when the bike is switched off. Not sure which model you have, but on the older ones a purple wire to pin 7 of the instruments is the source of standby voltage. Check your fuses, possibly fuse 5.

The instruments have separate 12V connections for constant & switched supplies.

Check the fuse that provides the constant 12V supply (should also provide 12V to the alarm & diagnostic sockets). On the Mk1 800 it's fuse #5 on the rear fuse box (5A) but differs on the newer models. If in doubt check the owner's manual to identify the correct fuse.

If the fuses are all good then do as chuckxc has said and check the wiring to the back of the instruments. On the Mk1 800 the constant 12V supply is the purple wire on pin 7 of the connector.

If the fuse is blown and a new one blows when inserted then it suggests your instrument circuit board may have a fault. If that's the case I might be able to sort it, but read the following forum thread fully to see whether you have an underlying rectifier / regulator issue that needs to be urgently addressed to avoid further damage...

You guys are brilliant, it was the 5v fuse, I checked everything but that one 🤦

Thankfully though T800XC has stuck with supporting us even though he traded his 800 and original Explorer for his new 1200 and seems to have been busier solving electronickery issues here lately more than I recall over many years. :028: :123:

Fuse #5 is used for the standby "always on" voltage for things like the instrument memory and alarm. Because it doesn't go through the switched circuits a separate fuse is needed.

I just blame the stepper motor, before that the bike was fine! 😂
